REDHAWKS 12, ZEPHYRS 1
First baseman Jon Singleton drove in four runs to lead the RedHawks to a 12-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday night in front of 7,504 fans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Singleton’s three-run double capped a seven-run, eighth-inning eruption. Right fielder Domingo Santana had three doubles to highlight a 17-hit attack that included 10 extra-base hits.
Shortstop Gregorio Petit collected three hits, leadoff hitter Austin Wates scored three runs and backup catcher Carlos Perez hit his second homer of the season after hitting just two all last season in 264 at-bats with the RedHawks.
SINGLETON DRIVING IN RUNS
Singleton’s four RBIs in Saturday’s win pushed his total to 13 for the season, which moves him into the top five in the Pacific Coast League.
BUCHANAN PICKS UP WIN
RedHawks right-hander Jake Buchanan picked up his first win of the season by tossing five shutout innings. Buchanan allowed only three hits, issued no walks and recorded five strikeouts.
Because Paul Clemens was recalled to Houston earlier on Saturday, the RedHawks didn’t have a “piggyback” starter. Relievers Chia-Jen Lo and Jose Cisnero pitched two innings each.
The four-game home series with New Orleans continues with games Sunday afternoon (2:05) and Monday night. The RedHawks open an eight-game road trip Tuesday night at Colorado Springs.
The RedHawks piggyback starters for Sunday’s matinee are Nick Tropeano (1-1, 5.68 ERA) and Collin McHugh (0-0, 6.43). The Zephyrs will start Owasso product Brian Flynn (0-1, 6.97).
