RedHawks 9, Sounds 8

Trevor Crowe reached base safely five times and scored four runs to help the RedHawks rally from a 7-1 deficit to notch a 9-8 win over Nashville in front of 4,677 fans Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Moved to the leadoff spot after Robbie Grossman was promoted to Houston, Crowe walked twice, singled twice, slammed his second home run and stole three bases.

The RedHawks collected 15 hits. Jake Elmore drove in three runs.

Kyle Hallock, who relieved starter Ross Seaton in the second, picked up the win with 41/3 scoreless innings. Jose Valdez pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth with back-to-back strikeouts and a ground out. Valdez also pitched the ninth to record his seventh save.

The two teams combined for only 13 runs in a three-game series three weeks ago in Nashville but surpassed that total by the fourth inning. The Sounds led 7-1 but the RedHawks countered with three runs in the second and four in the fourth to take an 8-7 lead.

The Houston Astros have ended the eight-man rotation experiment with the RedHawks but will continue to use a “piggyback” four-day, eight-man rotation at Double-A and lower levels.
