The driver was described as a black female wearing a black backpack. Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said police developed suspect information, but have not named the woman.

The small Oklahoma City Public Schools bus bound for North Highland Elementary was going north on Classen Boulevard about 7:40 a.m. when the driver of a four-door Chrysler Sebring ran the stop sign at NW 89 going east and hit the bus, Wardlow said. The impact overturned the bus.

“This is just the worst nightmare for a school district in a residential area like this,” Superintendent Karl Springer said. “We just want to remind people be careful about how fast you're driving.”

Oklahoma City Schools spokeswoman Kathleen Kennedy said seven students were on the bus.
