The meals were assembled Tuesday in the school’s gymnasium, 1120 E Hefner Road, and the winning team served them up later in the day, said Lynne Doe, the school’s development director.

The school’s 80 students have been collecting pledges for the hot dog meals.

"Some schools raise money by doing walkathons,” Doe said. "We wanted to help someone with our fundraiser.”

The project is being held in conjunction with Hotdogs for the Homeless, a ministry conducted by Rick Swyden of Edmond.

Members from some families at the school are involved with that ministry, she said.

Students decorated paper bags for the meals and put Thanksgiving cards inside, she said.

Money raised will go to benefit Hotdogs for the Homeless and to buy athletic equipment for the school.

The amount of money raised was still being calculated Tuesday.

School officials said they hope to make the fundraiser an annual tradition.
