Oklahoma City Thunder: Scotty Brooks moves up the list

The NBA Finals match the Spurs and the Heat. The coaching matchup is Gregg Popovich vs. Erik Spoelstra. They rank first and third in longevity on the job. And Scotty Brooks ranks fifth.

That’s right. Foreman Scotty, hired 4 1/2 years ago, on Nov. 22, 2008, is all the way up to fifth in seniority, after the departure of George Karl from the Nuggets this week.

Here are the top six:

1. Gregg Popovich, Spurs, Dec. 10, 1996

2. Doc Rivers, Celtics, April 29, 2004

3. Erik Spoelstra, Heat, April 28, 2008

4. Rick Carlisle, Mavericks, May 9, 2008

5. Scotty Brooks, Thunder, Nov. 22, 2008

6. Lionel Hollins, Grizzlies, Jan. 25, 2009

Those are the only coaches who have been on the job longer than three years. The Pelicans’ Monty Williams ranks seventh; he started his post June 7, 2010.

Utah’s Tyrone Corbin ranks 10th; he’s been on the job only 28 months.

The Knickerbockers’ Mike Woodson got the job March 14, 2012. He ranks 16th. That means half the league coaches have been on the job less than 15 months.
