Oklahoma City Thunder: Taking a look at the NBA's amnesty provision

What is the NBA's amnesty provision and how does it work?
by Darnell Mayberry Published: May 4, 2013

Who pays an amnestied player: The team that waived the player under the amnesty provision must continue to pay the player's salary unless a team assumed the full contract of the waived player. If another team is awarded the player via a partial waiver bid, the new team will pay that amount of the original contract while the waving team pays the rest.

What else: The waving team is not permitted to re-sign or re-acquire the waived player prior to the end of the term of the player's terminated contract.

Which teams have used the provision: Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Golden State, Houston, Indiana, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota, New York, Brooklyn, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland and Washington.
