An Oklahoma City mother was arrested after her son told police she beat him with a hammer.

Elizabeth Marie Alberty, 59, was arrested Monday on a complaint of abuse and neglect of a child by a caretaker, according to the incident report.

A woman called police about 4:05 p.m. Monday and said a man had dropped off a 14-year-old boy at her house because the boy was scared to go home, according to the report.

The woman said she knows the boy through her son. The man who dropped him off told the woman he found the boy crawling near his house. The woman saw the boy's injuries and called 911, according to the report.

Police noted the boy's feet and legs were bruised and appeared to be broken, and the boy appeared to be malnourished. Paramedics took the boy to a hospital.

Officers went to Alberty's home at the 2200 block of N Kelham Avenue. She told officers her son had run away about 1 a.m., but she did not report him as a runaway. She also told police she dropped a copy machine on the boy's feet but did not take him to the doctor's office, according to the incident report.

Officers found a hammer and a mallet in Alberty's bedroom and took them as evidence, according to the report.

Alberty was taken to the Oklahoma County jail and is being held on $10,000 bail, jail officials said.
