Oklahoma City Zoo breaks ground on new veterinary hospital

Oklahoma City Zoo broke ground Friday on a new veterinary hospital. The 22,000-square-foot Joan Kirkpatrick Animal Hospital is expected to open next year.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for the Oklahoma City Zoo's new Joan Kirkpatrick Animal Hospital.

The veterinary hospital facility will eventually replace the current hospital, which opened in the early 1970s. The $9 million hospital will have 22,000 square feet of space and will include viewing areas where guests can observe exams, surgeries and other medical procedures.

The hospital is expected to open next year.
