To celebrate Earth Month, Oklahoma City’s H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery, the only municipal fish hatchery in the state, will welcome visitors to a free open house April 18.

The hatchery, operated by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, maintains fish populations in Oklahoma City waters, raises fish stock for city lakes, ponds and parks and tests water to increase populations for fishing enthusiasts.

“Our citizens don’t often equate fisheries management with Earth Day,” fisheries biologist Bob Martin said. “But we want to show them what we do on a day-to-day basis and how we work to ensure healthy fish habitats in our local waterways.”

During the open house, visitors can see the boats and equipment needed to operate the hatchery, Martin said.

The open house will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery, 10940 N Meridian.
