The Thunder's James Harden is known nationally for being the NBA's best bench player. When it comes to charity, Harden also steps up in a big way.
The Kia Sorento CUV awarded to Harden after he was named this season's NBA Sixth Man of the Year will be sold to benefit YWCA Oklahoma City.
The vehicle is one of the many auction items for sale at YWCA's annual Purple Sash Gala, scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
“James Harden has been a supporter of ours,” said Paige Mills-Haag, senior development officer for YWCA Oklahoma City. “He's come and visited the children in our shelter and he threw a pizza party for them a couple of months ago and shot some hoops with them. He's become a big supporter.”
Other auction items include trips to Maui, Los Angeles and New York City and artwork by children staying in the YWCA shelter.
Even those who don't outbid others have a chance to go home with a prize or at least the satisfaction of supporting a good cause.
