NORMAN — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops was asked at Wednesday night’s Sooner Caravan to name a defensive player fans should watch out for in 2013.
Stoops named two — junior defensive back Julian Wilson and sophomore defensive end Charles Tapper.
“Julian Wilson is a guy we love, the way he played a year ago,” Stoops said. “And Charles Tapper at the defensive end position. A young, second-year guy, are guys I think could come on and really do well.”
Wilson, a former Southmoore standout, is expected to be the Sooners’ nickelback this season after playing a dimeback role a year ago, when he recorded 31 tackles and broke up five passes.
Tapper played sparingly as a true freshman, but enters this season with a strong chance to start opposite junior Geneo Grissom. The 6-foot-4, 261-pound sophomore came to OU from Baltimore.
