Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops releases list of newcomers expected to play immediately

NORMAN — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops announced after Tuesday’s practice the new players he expected to see immediate action in 2013.

Stoops mentioned running back Keith Ford; wide receiver Austin Bennett; offensive linemen Tony Feo and Josiah St. John; defensive linemen Matt Dimon, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Quincy Russell and Charles Walker; linebackers Dominique Alexander and Jordan Evans; defensive backs L.J. Moore, Ahmad Thomas and Hatari Byrd; and punter Jed Barnett.

Stoops added that defensive end D.J. Ward, who underwent a splenectomy last week, could still play this season when he recovers.

The newcomers Stoops didn’t mention were quarterback Cody Thomas, offensive tackle Christian Daimler, defensive lineman Matt Romar and receivers Jordan Smallwood and K.J. Young.
