Oklahoma colleges and universities gear up for commencement ceremonies

As colleges and universities statewide wrap up their spring semesters, graduating students are preparing for commencement ceremonies, which will be held in the coming weeks.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Moore, will speak at Oklahoma City Community College's commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. May 12 at Cox Convention Center.

Rose State College will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. May 11 at First Southern Baptist Church, 6400 South Sooner Road in Oklahoma City. Featured speaker will be Maj. Gen. Bruce Litchfield, commander of Tinker Air Force Base.

The University of Central Oklahoma will hold five commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday in Hamilton Field House on the UCO campus. Each ceremony will feature remarks from UCO President Don Betz.

A ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday will honor College of Education and Professional Studies bachelor's degree candidates, with a ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday honoring master's degree candidates from the Jackson College of Graduate Studies. On Saturday, College of Business Administration students will graduate at 10 a.m., College of Fine Arts and Design and College of Mathematics and Science students will graduate at 2 p.m., and College of Liberal Arts students will graduate at 6 p.m.

Southern Nazarene University will hold two commencement ceremonies May 12 at SNU's Sawyer Center. Undergraduate commencement will be at 10 a.m. and professional and graduate studies commencement will be at 2 p.m.

SNU alumnus Bobby Gruenewald will speak at the ceremony. Gruenewald developed the YouVersion Bible application, an app that gives the user searchable access to the Bible in numerous versions and 22 languages.

Mid-America Christian University will hold its commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gaulke Activity Center on the main campus, 3500 SW 119. The speaker will be James Earl “J.E.” Massey, dean emeritus of Anderson School of Theology in Anderson, Ind.
