A candidate for Congress is among more than a dozen Oklahomans filing a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the new federal health care law.

Republican candidate Kevin Calvey said Thursday the bill President Barack Obama signed last month violates the rights of Oklahomans by forcing them to buy health insurance. Calvey is running for the GOP nomination for the 5th Congressional District seat.

Calvey also urged Attorney General Drew Edmondson to challenge the new law as 13 other state attorneys general have. Their lawsuit claims Congress doesn't have the constitutional right to force people to get health coverage.

Edmondson spokesman Charlie Price says attorneys in Edmondson's office are studying the new law and that no decision has been made on a legal challenge.
