Cornerback Aaron Colvin returned for his senior season after nearly jumping into last April's NFL Draft.

He leads a defense — and, particularly, a secondary — that returned little experience from last year's unit.

But the Sooner defense dominated Louisiana-Monroe in Saturday's season opening 34-0 win, which represents OU's first shutout since 2010. Colvin finished with four tackles.

How proud are you of how the defense played tonight?

I'm very proud. We got a shutout, which is always great for any defense, but we know that we have a lot of work we can still do. We're trying to be a great defense, and when you're trying to be great you've gotta be flawless. We weren't exactly flawless.

A lot of you guys have talked about your hurt pride from last year's late-season struggles. Was tonight important in getting some of that back?

We've preached that. We're trying to get back to that championship swagger. Those guys before us, they played hard, they played physical and they played consistent. That's what we're working toward right now.

This was the first shutout for an OU defense since 2010. Was it nice looking up at the scoreboard and seeing that ‘0?'

It felt great. But we were just worried about playing hard, playing our game … we weren't really zeroed in on shutting them out, but it was nice.
