Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Patrice Douglas announced Tuesday that she will run for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. James Lankford.
Douglas, who has also served as mayor of Edmond, is a Republican. She held a news conference at Oklahoma Christian University.
Douglas’ decision means there will be an open-seat to replace her on the three-member Corporation Commission.
Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, announced Monday that he is running for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Muskogee.
Numerous Republicans are expected to run for the 5th District seat. The district includes most of Oklahoma County and Pottawatomie and Seminole Counties.
Before Lankford first won the seat in 2010, it was held by now-Gov. Mary Fallin. She was only the second woman from Oklahoma to hold a seat in Congress.
