An Oklahoma County jailer is getting to know the other side of jail life — the side behind bars.

Derek Wayne Roberts, 26, was arrested Wednesday night on complaints of rape and forcible oral sodomy with a child under 16. Roberts had worked as a jailer since June 1, 2012, Oklahoma County sheriff's spokesman Mark Myers said.

Oklahoma City police were called about 11:10 p.m. to the area of SE 71 and Plains Avenue in reference to a man acting suspiciously, according to the incident report.

An officer found Roberts in his car. Roberts seemed to be nervous and said he was waiting for a friend to meet him there, the officer reported.

A 15-year-old male approached the car, according to the report. The officer interviewed the juvenile and Roberts and discovered they were involved in an intimate relationship, police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Roberts was taken to the Oklahoma County jail. His bail is set at $50,000, a jail official said Thursday.

Sheriff John Whetsel reviewed the information about Roberts' arrest and fired him, citing ethical and professional policies, Myers said.
