Oklahoma County judge issues arrest warrant for potential juror found in contempt

True to recent form, a man dismissed from jury duty for being late kept a judge waiting again Tuesday.

And waiting.

Only this time, Rickey Christopher, 23, failed to appear for a contempt hearing, prompting Oklahoma County District Judge Ray C. Elliott to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Christopher, a potential juror in a child abuse trial, showed up late for jury selection twice last week and spent four hours in the courthouse jail after trying to explain himself to the judge.

Elliott dropped one contempt charge after Christopher apologized for repeatedly interrupting him, and then scheduled Tuesday's hearing to determine whether Christopher should be held in contempt for his tardiness.

Last week, Christopher told his attorney he was 15 minutes late the first time because his car broke down on the way to court and his cellphone stopped working. Christopher said he was 14 minutes late the second time because he thought he had enough time to go home for lunch.

The judge had warned Christopher, of Oklahoma City, to be on time after his first misstep and ordered him to appear for Tuesday's hearing.
