OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the first-degree murder conviction of a 24-year-old man who was sentenced to life in prison for the child abuse death of his two-month-old daughter.
The court handed down the decision Tuesday in the case of Royce Lee Jarnagin II. Jarnagin was convicted by a jury in Grady County of the September 2008 death of his infant daughter. Officials say Jarnagin stayed at home and took care of the baby, while the girl’s mother worked full time.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation found that the girl suffered brain swelling and bone fractures, injuries consistent with a baby being violently shaken.
Jarnagin’s defense attorney, Wayna Tyner of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.
