City man gets life term in murder

A man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole for killing a friend over a missing cellphone. A jury convicted Dannie S. Lee last month of first-degree murder in the May 24, 2011, shooting death of Marquis Lewis, 18, outside an apartment complex in the 5400 block of Willow Cliff Road. Lee told jurors he accidentally shot Lewis when the latter reached for Lee's gun during a confrontation. Prosecutors argued that Lee was the aggressor and shot Lewis seven times at close range because he was angry over his girlfriend's missing phone. Lee apologized to the victim's mother before being sentenced.

Slaying victim's girlfriend testifies

A woman told a judge Wednesday she was tied up and watched as her boyfriend was robbed and shot to death during a home invasion. Justina Garcia testified during a preliminary hearing for Gerald Dwayne Jackson, 22, of Oklahoma City. Jackson and another man are accused of killing Christopher Trevino, 25, on Jan. 15 at his home in the 7900 block of S McKinley. Prosecutors allege Jackson and Joshua Odith Johnson, 23, tied up Trevino, Garcia and the victim's sister in the house during the robbery. Garcia identified Jackson as the shooter and said he robbed Trevino of between $15,000 and $20,000 before shooting him twice in the back of the head at close range. Jackson's hearing was continued until next month. Johnson waived his right to preliminary hearing Wednesday and is due back in court in April.
