Man gets life in woman's death
A man received a life sentence Wednesday for killing his girlfriend in front of her three children. A jury convicted Noel Montes Sosa, 33, of first-degree murder in the strangulation death of Sarita Aguilar, 27. Aguilar was found dead about 2:30 a.m. July 10, 2011, in her apartment after police were called about a disturbance. Key testimony in the case came from Aguilar's mother, who told jurors her 7-year-old granddaughter told her she watched as Sosa choked her mother. Sosa's attorney told District Judge Ray C. Elliott that her client maintains his innocence and will appeal his conviction. Sosa must serve 38.3 years in prison before he is eligible for parole, and will be deported to his native Honduras when released.
