Bat fight brings arrest

A baseball bat fight between neighbors ended with one man in jail, Oklahoma City police said Monday. Joseph A. Gutierrez, 42, was arrested on a complaint of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon about 3:45 p.m. Friday after the incident at 212 N Blackwelder. Police say Gutierrez walked into the house of Cirenio Torres, 46, and appeared to be drunk. Torres yelled at Gutierrez to get out of his house and tried to push him out the door after he acted aggressively. Gutierrez fell on Torres’ 9-month-old stepson, which prompted Torres to start punching him, the police report said. Gutierrez left, but returned with a baseball bat. Torres grabbed a bat of his own and the two men fought with baseball bats. Police said Gutierrez had significant head injuries, so he was taken to the hospital and treated before being taken to jail. Torres, who had injuries to his hand and face, told police he would drive himself to the hospital.
