Day care worker

facing abuse charge

An Edmond church day care worker is facing a child abuse charge, accused of breaking a 3-year-old boy's leg, court papers show. Toni Murphy, 25, of Oklahoma City, was charged Monday in Oklahoma County District Court with child abuse. Prosecutors allege Murphy used an unreasonable amount of force to restrain the child, who suffered a broken femur Jan. 9 at First Nazarene Church Daycare, 3001 S Boulevard. Murphy was the only adult in the room at the time of the injury, police reported in a probable cause affidavit. The victim told investigators she kicked him. Murphy told investigators the injury “might have happened while she was holding him down and possibly applying too much pressure to his legs,” police reported in the affidavit.

Man charged after assault on mother

A Midwest City man is accused of assaulting the mother of his child with his fists, a vacuum cleaner and a large ceramic cat, court papers show. Jayson Scott Williams, 29, was charged Monday in Oklahoma County District Court with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, interfering with an emergency telephone call and resisting arrest. Police reported in a probable cause affidavit that Williams, who has a prior conviction for assault with a dangerous weapon, came to the woman's residence about 3 a.m. March 12 and started punching her as she slept. She said Williams then hit her across the back with a vacuum cleaner and “smashed” a large ceramic cat statue over her back, police reported.
