Man sentenced in sexual abuse

A judge sentenced a man Monday to 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting three boys. Manuel Marchant, 23, pleaded guilty in March to one count of first-degree rape and four counts of indecent or lewd acts with a child under 16, court records show. The victims were 5, 9 and 11. Prosecutors said the 9-year-old took the majority of the abuse to protect the other boys. Marchant, an undocumented alien, will be deported upon his release from prison.


YWCA ex-official surrenders

A former high-ranking employee accused of stealing more than $280,000 from YWCA Oklahoma City turned herself in Monday, authorities said. Shannon Marie Rickards, 41, of Oklahoma City, was booked into the Oklahoma County jail and released, a detention officer said. Rickards was charged Thursday with one count of embezzlement. The state attorney general's office is prosecuting the case. Rickards is accused of embezzling $281,410 between October 2010 and January 2013 while she was chief financial officer, court records show. All the embezzled money came from revenues generated by Our Sisters' Closet, a resale store at 2209 W Interstate 240 Service Road. Rickards admitted to charity executives and investigators that she transferred ownership of two bank cards to her name to steal funds, records show. She also admitted to altering bank statements to cover up the embezzlement, records show.



Woman faces cruelty charge

An Edmond woman accused of drowning her dog was charged Monday in Oklahoma County District with animal cruelty and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kristen Elyse Elliott, 25, was arrested May 4 after police found the dead dog wrapped in blanket behind a home in the 2400 block of Richland Drive. Elliott admitted drowning the dog and told officers “Joy was put out of her misery the best way that I knew how,” records show. The woman's parent's said their daughter is mentally ill, police reported.
