Man guilty in horse's death
SALLISAW — A Vian man has been convicted of felony animal cruelty in the death of a horse. A jury on Tuesday found Rueben Ray Houston, 27, guilty and recommended six months in jail. Sentencing is set for Thursday. Prosecutors say Houston dragged the horse for about a half-mile behind his all-terrain vehicle. Prosecutors say Houston then cut a neighbor's fence and dragged the horse to a tree where he left it to die. Defense attorney Steven Ramm argued that Houston thought the horse was dead and did not intentionally injure the animal.
