NORMAN

Man charged with cruelty

A Norman man has been charged with animal cruelty in the deaths of two ducks. Alexander Joseph Clay, 22, was charged in Cleveland County District Court with one felony count of animal cruelty. Police say he drowned two ducks in muriatic acid. Clay apparently was angry at his mother when he killed the ducks, which were from a neighborhood man-made lake near his home, according to a court affidavit. Clay told his mother that it would have been her instead of the ducks if she had been home Sunday night when the ducks were killed, according to the affidavit. Police took Clay into custody after his mother called police. Capt. Tom Easley said the case was “disturbing.” He described muriatic acid “as a very caustic chemical.”
