Ex-teacher waives hearing right
A former Marble City school teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old male student has waived her right to a preliminary hearing, court officials said Tuesday. Stephanie Diane Harris, 27, of Sallisaw is charged with first-degree rape and three counts of soliciting sexual conduct. While employed with the school as an eighth-grade computer teacher, Harris sent text messages in June asking the teenager if he wanted to have sex with her, according to a probable-cause affidavit signed by deputy Cindy Smith. The teenager consented to the sex act. Oklahoma law states a person younger than 16 cannot consent to sex. Harris also is accused of sending the teenager nude photographs of herself and explicit text messages, the affidavit states.
