NORMAN — Oklahoma sophomore defensive tackle Jordan Phillips will have surgery for a chronic back issue and miss the remainder of this season, Sooners coach Bob Stoops announced Monday.
“It isn’t one specific injury, but it’s been something that’s bothered him for the last couple of years that is not improving like they want it to,” Stoops said.
Phillips started the Sooners’ first four games of the season, but missed the TCU and Texas games the past two weeks. Redshirt freshman Jordan Wade started in his place, and junior Torrea Peterson will also be asked to take on some of the work load in Phillips’ absence.
“They played hard, but they need to play better,” Stoops said. “There were some technique issues. They haven’t played as much as some of the other guys, so hopefully they’ll keep improving as we go.”
