OSU students win fellowships

Three Oklahoma State University students have received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. Sunny Evans, Mikayla Marvin and Josh McLoud will receive three years of support for graduate school and research. Evans, of Pawnee, is a masters student in the Entomology and Plant Pathology Department. She will track the food web effects of an exotic beetle that has just crossed over into Oklahoma.

Marvin, of Yukon, is a graduate student in the Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Department. She will research the role of soil piping and internal erosion in causing landslides, stream bank as well as dam and gully failures. McLoud, of Weleetka, is a graduate student with the Botany Department. He is studying a small flowering plant and a special type of cell division regulation in the reproductive process.

Three other OSU students received honorable mentions: Cynthia Dobbs, of McKey; Courtney Passow, of Round Rock, Texas; and William Mausbach, of Inman, Neb.

OCU adds fraternity

A new women's fraternity will open in August at Oklahoma City University. The Panhellenic Council at has accepted Phi Mu, which will be the fourth National Panhellenic Conference women's fraternity at OCU. The other three chapters are Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi and Gamma Phi Beta.

Phi Mu was founded on March 4, 1852, at Wesleyan College in Georgia. Phi Mu's national philanthropy is the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The organization has 117 collegiate chapters and more than 12,000 collegiate members.
