Tulsa names top teacher

A junior high vocal music teacher has been named the 2013 Tulsa Teacher of the Year. Kevin Pearson teaches at East Central Junior High School.

Also, Dorothy King was named the 2013 Support Employee of the Year for the district. She is the parent facilitator at Lanier Elementary.

Leadership camp offered

Applications are available for the Gen. Tommy Franks' Four-Star Leadership program. Fifty high school students from throughout the country will participate in the program July 14-20 at Oklahoma Christian University. The program is free.

Speakers are presidential adviser Karl Rove, authors, leaders and others. Activities include policy writing, speaking, writing and a model Student Congress. Nearly $400,000 in scholarships will be awarded to the top participants. Applications are due May 15 and available at
