OSU professor honored
STILLWATER — A professor and director of the Oklahoma State University School of Media and Strategic Communications has been honored for a book she wrote. Derina R. Holtzhausen was recognized for “Relations as Activism: Postmodern Approaches to Theory & Practice.” The work was named the 2012 Outstanding Book by the Public Relations Division of the National Communications Association.
Students named
to Senate program
Two students have been named Oklahoma delegates to the 51st Annual United States Senate Youth Program. They are Thomas Young, of Vian High School, and Emma Jane Hutchison, of Putnam City North High School. The first alternate is Daniel Lee Pae, of Lawton High School, and second alternate is Dylan Matthew Oney, of Muskogee High School. The Youth Senate program will be March 2-9 in Washington. Each delegate will be awarded a $5,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies.
School foundation
selects board
The Oklahoma Christian School Foundation recently announced its chairman and board members. Roddy Bates, an Edmond resident and president of Raptor Properties, will serve as chairman. Board members are Susan Binkowski, Linda Catania, Randy Kamp, Randy Green, Dr. Ed Rice, Bill Stewart, Douglas Van Meter, W. Roger Webb and Annette White-Klososky. Oklahoma Christian School is in Edmond. The school serves more than 880 students in prekindergarten through 12th grade.
Team succeeds at debate
The speech team from Douglass High School in northeast Oklahoma City received several awards at a recent tournament in Prague. Four students — Markeyshia Barber, Cheyenne Thompson, Alanna Rivera and Talitha Byrd — all reached the finals. Barber, Thompson and Rivera will move on to the regional finals. The team is coached by Billy Elles.
