Oklahoma education briefs, July 1

Two Oklahoma students have been named 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholars. Joseph C. Woodson, a homeschool student from Tulsa, and Anna H. Zhao, a student at Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics in Oklahoma City, were selected by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. The scholars have demonstrated leadership, scholarship, contribution to school and community, and outstanding accomplishments in the arts, sciences, humanities, and other fields of interest.

College, university announce partnership

Officials at Tulsa Community College and St. Gregory's University have partnered to create transfer opportunities for business students. Academically qualified graduates of Tulsa Community College's business administration program can complete their bachelor's degrees at the St. Gregory's Tulsa campus. The agreement ensures that coursework credit for TCC's program transfers easily to SGU. The plan will go into effect immediately, with the first class of transfer students beginning this fall. “We are pleased to be working with Tulsa Community College to expand and streamline educational opportunities for their students,” said William Mayfield, St. Gregory's vice president for graduate and continuing studies. “By being able to easily determine which courses will count toward completion of their bachelor's degrees, students can develop a better academic and financial plan around two years at TCC and two years at SGU.”
