Districts receive literacy funds
The U.S. Education Department has awarded Innovative Approaches to Literacy Program grants to three Oklahoma school districts funds to help improve literacy. To qualify, districts had to have at least 1 in 4 students from families below the poverty line. Grant winners will host literacy activities and give away free books. Maryetta School in Stilwell received about $290,000. Cottonwood Public School in Coalgate received about $200,000. Lane Elementary in Lane received about $230,000.
OSU program honored
An Oklahoma State University program has received the Nasdaq Center of Entrepreneurship Excellence Award. The Riata Center for Entrepreneurship in the Spears School of Business received the award from Nasdaq and the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers. The center was recognized for its advances in entrepreneurship research and curriculum, outreach to emerging ventures, community collaborations and special projects.
