Oklahoma elections: Mustang voters not favoring hotel/motel tax; Watonga hospital to get sales tax boost

A proposed hotel/motel tax in Mustang appeared to be on its way to defeat, but voters in Watonga voted on two sales tax proposals to help that city's hospital.

A proposed hotel-motel tax in Mustang to raise money for economic development and help fund the city's Parks and Recreation Department was defeated, with 1,193 no votes compared with 1,073 in favor.

Watonga voters approved two sales tax proposals designed to help that city's hospital pay off some debts and make improvements. Both passed by margins of more than 2 to 1.

Noble County approved a countywide sales tax increase to fund rural fire departments in Billings, Lucien, Marland, Morrison, Perry, Rock Township and Sumner. The measure passed 885 to 554.

Hughes County voters approved a countywide sales tax increase to fund rural fire departments in Atwood, Calvin, Dustin, Gerty, Holdenville, Horntown, Lamar, Non, Spaulding, Stuart, Wetumka and Yeager. It passed 1,739 to 678.
