Polls have opened as Oklahoma voters prepare to make history and decide whether Democratic Lt. Gov. Jari Askins or Republican Congresswoman Mary Fallin becomes the state's first female governor.

Tuesday's election also will be nationally historic, with the women-only gubernatorial races in Oklahoma and New Mexico being just the third and fourth such matchups in U.S. history.

The ballot also features 11 state questions, along with statewide, House and Senate, judicial and district attorney matchups. State election officials are predicting a large voter turnout.

The National Weather Service says conditions will be mostly cloudy in eastern Oklahoma and mostly sunny in the west, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the southeast. Highs will be in the 60s.

Polls will remain open until 7 p.m.
