Hart Energy honors Ward, Chesapeake

SandRidge Energy Inc. CEO Tom L. Ward and Chesapeake Energy Corp. will receive “Excellence Awards” next month at Hart Energy's 5th annual Energy Capital Conference in Houston. “The Excellence Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments in industry leadership, E&P success, and financial innovation,” said Leslie Haines, editor-in-chief of Oil and Gas Investor magazine. “As supporters of the industry, we are delighted to honor these individuals and companies for their extraordinary efforts.” Ward will be honored as executive of the year for leading SandRidge's growth as it develops the Mississippian oil play. SandRidge also completed initial public offerings on three royalty trusts last year and formed two joint ventures with international companies. Chesapeake earned the discovery of the year award for opening the Utica Shale play in Ohio. Ward and Chesapeake will be recognized on June 7.

OGE offers teacher grant funds

OGE Energy Corp. is accepting applications for its teacher grant program through June 1. Teachers at public schools across OGE's service area are eligible to apply for up to $1,000 to fund creative math, science and reading projects. “We value the schools in the communities where we live and work,” said Kathleen O'Shea, OGE's manager of corporate communications. “We are pleased to provide funding for innovative programs that otherwise might not happen.” Applications are available online at oge.com.

Laredo names new board member

Laredo Petroleum Holdings Inc. has added Myles Scoggins to its board of directors, the company announced. His appointment was approved at Laredo's annual meeting. Scoggins is president of the Colorado School of Mines and a former ExxonMobil Production Co. executive.
