There's usually plenty to do in the energy industry in Oklahoma, but a slew of upcoming local oil and natural gas conferences and conventions promise to provide enough networking opportunities for even the industry's most social members.

I and the other members of The Oklahoman energy team try to attend many of the conferences, conventions and expos throughout the state.

We find them educational and an opportunity to better understand the industry we cover.

I spent part of this week at the Mid-Continent Digital Oilfield Conference, where I learned about how companies throughout the state are adapting modern technology to improve processes that in some cases have been using the same processes for decades.

We will have plenty of opportunities to learn.

What's coming up

Over the next 62 days, the state's energy industry will hold at least six more conferences:

The Tulsa Pipeline Expo will be Aug. 26-28 at the Tulsa Expo Center.

Oklahoma City University's Meinders School of Business will hold its 2013 Energy Policy and Future of Passenger Transportation Conference Sept. 17 at the Cox Convention Center.

The 2013 Oil and Gas Expo will be Oct. 3 at the Cox Pavilion at State Fair Park.

The third annual Governor's Energy Conference will be Oct. 9 at the Tulsa Convention Center.
