VERDIGRIS — A northeastern Oklahoma family has finished their quest to visit all 50 U.S. states.
A local newspaper reports the Monroe family from Verdigris recently returned from a trip to Oregon, Washington and Alaska. The family started their journey to travel across the nation in 2001.
Mike Monroe, his wife Dee, and their three children, traveled more than 150,000 miles in a 2003 GMC suburban.
The family stopped in all of the states except two, which were North Dakota and Maryland. Monroe says they drove through those states to meet a deadline.
Monroe says the end of their journey marks a new beginning for 18-year-old Tyler, who has started training with the U.S. Air Force.
