The 10th Annual Red Nation Film Festival & Awards Show celebrates the accomplishments of American Indian and indigenous people in the fields of film, television and network productions and honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors in support of the American Indian.

This year’s award nominees include everything from Gore Verbiniski’s “The Lone Ranger” to the Oklahoma-made fact-based film “The Cherokee Word for Water,” which has earned nominations in multiple categories including Outstanding Actor (Mo Brings Plenty), Outstanding Actress (Kimberly Norris Guerrero), Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role (Steve Reevis), Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role (Deanna Dungan) Best Director (Tim Kelly and Charlie Soap) and Best Picture.

Filmed in Oklahoma utilizing the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program, “The Cherokee Word” for Water chronicles how a Cherokee community used traditional American Indian values of reciprocity and interdependence to rebuild. The screenplay was inspired by the Bell Waterline Project, which was the subject of national media coverage. The film highlights the work that led Wilma Mankiller to become the first modern female Chief of the Cherokee Nation.

Winners will be announced during the live event on Monday, Nov. 11 at the Laemmle Theatre in New York City.
