The result: White won the 2003 Heisman Trophy and finished third in the 2004 Heisman voting. Rawls transferred to Louisiana Tech in September 2003 but never played a college game.
Quarterbacks: Paul Thompson vs. Rhett Bomar
The pick: Thompson.
Dates: The announcement came on Aug. 25, but with a twist. Bob Stoops said both quarterbacks would play in the season opener Sept. 3 against TCU.
The result: Thompson and Bomar both struggled in an upset loss to TCU, Bomar was named the starter the next week and remained so the rest of the season. Thompson moved to receiver. But when Bomar was dismissed from the team in August 2006, Thompson returned to quarterback and led OU to the Big 12 title.
Quarterbacks: Sam Bradford vs. Keith Nichol and Joey Halzle
The pick: Bradford.
Dates: Bradford took over all the first-team repetitions on Aug. 20, and OU announced Bradford as the starter on Aug. 21. The season opened Sept. 1.
The result: Bradford quarterbacked OU to the 2007 Big 12 title, then did the same in 2008, when he won the Heisman Trophy. By the time he was injured in the 2009 season opener against Brigham Young, Landry Jones was his backup quarterback.
