“He’s in as good a spirits as he can be right now,” Hill said. “It’s always a shock when something like that happens, but he’s OK.”
KINDLER USING CHAMPIONSHIP ON RECRUITING TRAIL
The Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team shared the 2014 national championship with Florida, and coach K.J. Kindler said her staff is taking full advantage of that momentum on the recruiting trail.
“The response has been huge,” Kindler said. “It’s a good time for us to be out taking advantage of it.”
The title was the Sooners’ first women’s gymnastics championship. Kindler took over the program in 2006, and said she has felt like her team has slowly been building toward that moment.
“In women’s gymnastics, only four teams had ever won it when I took over,” Kindler said. “That’s not very many, so to break into that group is a pretty tough thing to do. Florida had done it the year before. Hopefully we’re opening up the floodgates to do it many times.
“I felt like our senior class had incredible leadership. They were a great group, and definitely led the team down the right path. The chemistry was the best ever. We were knocking on the door for a very long time.”
