Oklahoma football: Bob Stoops reiterates, running back Damien Williams needs more carries

This time, though, Stoops volunteered the discussions he's had with his coaching staff about Williams when asked if any players will see increased playing time. Last week, he was asked directly about Williams.

“We've brought up that we want to get Damien more carries and more opportunities,” Stoops said.

“It's just based on practice and what we've seen in games to this point. He's been really strong taking care of the football, but also making big plays and getting extra yards.”

Through three games, Williams leads Oklahoma with 293 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He's scored on touchdown runs of 65 and 89 yards.

Even after Williams' success in OU's first two games, the junior-college transfer from Arizona Western received just 10 carries, gaining 36 yards, in the Sooners' loss to Kansas State on Sept. 22.

RED RIVER RIVALRY KICKOFF TIME ANNOUNCED

There will be plenty of time to eat corn dogs and all things fried for breakfast, late lunch and dinner this year.

Oklahoma will take on Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry with an 11 a.m. kickoff on Oct. 13. The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

This kickoff time is the same as 2011, when Oklahoma beat Texas, 55-17.

The 2012 matchup marks the 107th time Oklahoma and Texas will have played. The meeting is also the 91st time the game will be played in Dallas and the 84th game in a row.

Oklahoma plays its game this Saturday against Texas Tech in Lubbock, and Texas plays at home against West Virginia.

Stoops mentioned earlier this season how he didn't like an entire season of late-night kickoffs.

He raised the point that it caused an unfair advantage if Oklahoma had all late-night kickoffs while other teams had late morning or early afternoon kickoffs. With late-night kickoffs, players and coaches must hang around well after the game to talk with print and electronic media.
