Oklahoma football: Bob Stoops says Sooners need to execute better

“Just a deep ball to Trey would have been what you see from him a lot,” Stoops said. “If he would have stayed a half-step inbounds more and execute better.”

Tress Way's dropped hold for Michael Hunnicutt's field goal in the second quarter was another place the Sooners didn't execute well, but it's something Stoops said that they will continue to coach on. He did comment on the execution of the secondary. They only gave up 50 offensive yards to UTEP.

“I don't care who you're playing, to play the entire game and not give up any pass of any consequence is a good thing,” Stoops said. “So hopefully that will continue. I thought those guys looked pretty good overall in their coverage and what we were asking them to do.”

DOM WHALEY NOT HAPPY WITH HIS PERFORMANCE

Dom Whaley thought Saturday went “not too good at all.” But he wasn't talking about his ankle, which he said felt really good. As for his performance, it wasn't what he wanted.

“Couple of bad penalties on my part,” Whaley said. “Possible turnover. Dropped passes. Stuff like that. Those kind of things I want to permit from future games.”

Whaley returned for his first game since his ankle injury against Kansas State in 2011.
