Former Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson was selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos took Nelson with the 27th pick in the seventh round (242nd overall).
Nelson’s selection is somewhat surprising, considering the way his collegiate career ended early last October with a torn pectoral muscle.
He was the third Sooner to be drafted, following Jalen Saunders and Aaron Colvin, who went to the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively, in the fourth round.
Before Nelson’s injury, he was having the best season of his career through four games. He had recorded 27 tackles and a sack, and returned an interception for a touchdown in the Sooners’ historic victory at Notre Dame.
