Oklahoma football: Dominique Whaley just takes the ball and runs

Dominique Whaley's ankle injury doesn't cross his mind when he plays. There are days when he feels like maybe he won't be back to where he was last year, but then he thinks positive and starts to push himself.

“Once I get in the groove of things, I don't really do much thinking,” Whaley said. “It's just running.”

Besides, there are big offensive lineman like Lane Johnson and Tyrus Thompson out there working to create a gap for him to get through.

“Big, strong guys,” Whaley said of his impressions of the lineman. “Really big. They do everything right. I have no problem running behind them at all. I might even hide behind them.”

METOYER: GRISSOM ‘A FREAK'

Much of the buzz surrounding Oklahoma's offense has centered around true freshman wide receiver Trey Metoyer, who fans have been waiting to see since he signed in February 2011.

But Metoyer is impressed with another newcomer to the Sooners' offense: sophomore tight end Geneo Grissom who, until the start of the summer, was a defensive end.

“Geneo is a big help,” Metoyer said. “He's a big guy. He's got hands probably the size of mine, and he can run.
