Oklahoma football: Former Norman North star Jordan Evans was prepared when Frank Shannon went down

Oklahoma true freshman linebacker Jordan Evans said he thinks he handled the first significant action of his college career well.

Evans, a Norman North product, entered last week's 38-30 win over Texas Tech when the team's leading tackler — sophomore Frank Shannon — was injured.

“I went into the game with the mindset that I have to stay prepared, because I'm right behind Frank,” Evans said. “But what really made me know that I did actually OK was how my teammates treated me and how the coaches said I did. So I was actually really proud of my effort but there's always room to improve.”

Shannon is practicing and expected to play Thursday night at Baylor, but Evans' performance against the Red Raiders is certainly encouraging. He recorded eight tackles and broke up one pass.

“I know one thing when they recruited me was my athleticism was a key to my recruitment,” Evans said. “So I have some nice speed, which I know helps against these fast and high-powered tempo offenses, so I think that's what probably best fits in the defense against these teams.”
