STOOPS COMPARES ONUOHA AND ALEXANDER
OU opened practice for about 15 minutes to the media Monday while the Sooners warmed up and stretched.
As the defensive ends went through warm-up drills, true freshman Michael Onuoha, from Edmond Santa Fe, has put on some muscle during his first summer on campus and is wearing No. 84, previously worn by All-Big 12 end Frank Alexander.
“Frank Alexander is still here,” Stoops said to reporters with a grin as he pointed at Onuoha.
Onuoha, listed at 6-5 and 235 pounds, didn't play football for an entire season until his senior year, when he displayed raw talent and high potential. He chose the Sooners over an offer from Missouri.
OKLAHOMA HELPING OKLAHOMANS
OU has joined the relief efforts following the recent wildfires that struck central Oklahoma.
The Sooners and Team FanShop released a T-shirt with the words “2012 Relief Efforts — Oklahoma Helping Oklahomans” on Monday. Proceeds from the shirt, which is available at SoonerSports.com, will be donated to the United Way of Norman, Salvation Army and American Red Cross.
Men's shirts cost $19.95, while women's are $21.95. Both also come with a flat-rate shipping fee of $4.99.
OU and the United Way previously partnered for relief efforts following a 2011 tornado.
