Oklahoma football: Former Sooner Mark Clayton retiring

After spending parts of seven seasons in the NFL, former Oklahoma star Mark Clayton announced Wednesday that he was retiring.

Clayton made the announcement on Twitter and Facebook, posting “NFL as I know it will be something I watch from now on.”

Clayton, 30, hadn't played in the NFL since 2011, when he played two games for St. Louis before tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee.

His most productive year in the NFL came in 2006 with Baltimore, when he started 12 games and scored five touchdowns.

Clayton had 260 catches for 3,448 yards and 14 touchdowns in the NFL.

He was an All-Big 12 and All-America selection with the Sooners, with 1,425 yards and 15 touchdowns on 83 catches as a junior in 2003.

Clayton had 62 catches for 855 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior.
