NORMAN — Oklahoma has now rushed for 300 yards in each of its first two games of the 2013 season after Saturday's 16-7 win over West Virginia.
The Sooners rushed for 316 yards Saturday. Senior center Gabe Ikard spoke about the offense and the OU defense's performance after Saturday's win.
Q: How do you think the run game performed tonight?
A: First of all, I thought we ran the ball good. Didn't run it great. We're not satisfied with that performance at all. We could've rushed the ball for 450, 500 yards. We had some mistakes that we need to correct. One of the limitations tonight was our ability to throw the ball downfield and keep those safeties out of the run game. We've gotta clean things up on that end.
How does a team's mentality change when there's a switch at quarterback?
It didn't change our mentality at all. Both of those guys … we knew they'd play at some point. We knew Blake would get some time, whenever it may be. We know the coaches are just evaluating those two guys.
What did you think of your defense's performance tonight?
I thought they had an absolutely phenomenal performance tonight against an offense that just lit us up last year. I know obviously different personnel for West Virginia, but to be able to hold that offense to seven points … I'm very impressed with those guys.
