NORMAN — Oklahoma’s offensive linemen endearingly call one sixth-year senior “Grandpa Evans.”
Tyler Evans suffered ACL tears that cost him the ability to play in 2012 and 2013. Both seasons would have been his senior year.
He was granted a medical hardship, though, allowing him to give it one more shot in 2014.
Senior offensive tackle Daryl Williams laughed when asked if it feels like Evans has been on the team forever.
“It was a great feeling playing with him, side by side, on every type of block,” Williams said.
The last time Williams and Evans played together in a game, Williams was a freshman and Evans was a junior. Now, both are seniors.
Asked if Evans takes his new nickname well, Williams quipped, “I mean, he’s gotten used to it.”
